Kirsten Sheridan's poignant film about an orphaned boy who 'hears' music in his head and 'knows' that his parents are out there waiting for him. This almost fairy-tale-like element drives Evan Taylor to follow the music, taking him to the busy streets of New York, where a monger uses him to play for money, to a church where he befriends a beautiful little girl and finally, to Julliard, where he is confirmed a prodigy and given his debut concert at the Central Park.
I was watching the movie with about 60% interest because right off, i already knew where it would lead me. Of course, a predictable movie would always give you second thoughts. Sure, it's predictable. But what if they made it that way and then bam! surprised you with a turn you wouldnt expect, an ending that you couldnt possibly accept. That had a lot to do with my finishing the movie, but most of it? The heart of the movie.
You could feel the emotions in the film, though they are emotions you have already gone through a million times in your lifetime. The search of Evan Taylor/August Rush for his parents reaches a transcendent peak, almost at the same time as does the music. I spent probably the last 20 minutes of the film simply transfixed, bawling my eyes out for one of those wondrous cries that makes you feel all good inside after.
This modern and kinder version of the DIckensian Oliver gives hope. And that is why I love movies so damn much. COnsidering the many times I often feel lost myself and how i "desire to be found", i reckon I'd be seeing a lot of Evan / August in the following months.

tre feste
Last Saturday was International Women's Day and this decades-old feast is pretty much a big thing in Italy. At least, many people still seem to remember it. I had gone to bessie Ghrei's place to clear my head for a bit but it turned out into a two-night retreat. Saturday was celebrated at Phen's place for it was her birthday and then the next day was Em's party. Whew!
Can you imagine the running around we did, from Porto di Mare to Loreto and back?!? I swear, if i can collect all the time i spend in the subways, i'd be so much happier (and probably more rested).
But let's not dwell on my eternal case of insomnia. At least for this weekend, even with a slight case of colds and cough and a major one of body ache, we part-ayed!!!

CHANGING FACES 2004-2008
i initially thought of doing this slide for my family's viewing only .... they've been constantly asking if i'm thinner or if i have longer hair or if i have this or that... four years, and i guess i have changed after all that time. not just inside, but also outside. (could it be the wear and tear?) ehheh....

pierpaolo's birthday
sometime ago, i wrote a poem about the love of a mother. In all the best cases, no matter what words i use, i don't think i can ever really describe what it is about a mother's love that knows no bounds.
i met orietta the very first day roland became my roommate and instantly i loved her. i knew she was a real person - i felt it. it emanated from her very smile, her soft touch, even from her bright, blonde hair.
a couple of months later, i met her son, pierpaolo who, i believe, is a boy of 8, but also a man, in all aspects. his charisma is one that pervades into the air, as does his intelligence.
so when orietta came to me asking for help so that she and husband andrea can throw him a surprise 8th birthday party, of course, i had to say yes. after all, all i had to do was be there.
i thought of doing the poster for him, though which came out really fabulously. But, all the rest, was Orietta's and Andrea's. They are just the loveliest parents. I wish them all the best.

GIODY A MILANO!!!
One of the closest friends I've got here came to visit me in Milan! Just in time for the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and the Notte Bianca. We saw the movie Eleven Men OUt, (which sucked real bad!!!) and we didn't go to the Notte Bianca...But with Roland and Bailey , we did invade Billy's and danced all night until six a.m.! Thanks for the great weekend, guys!!! (Sorellina, un abbraccio!!!)
Domenica a Piacenza
A tranquil weekend spent at Pier's in Piacenza is always more than a treat - it's a much-needed break from all the chaos during the week. Special thanks to his niece, Gloria - one of the most gorgeous tots I've ever seen in my life - she is the just the perfect subject and she always comes out great in photos!
